One of the first sewing projects I undertook as an adult was making a doll from a Christine Shively pattern I had picked up at the local quilt store. I had gone in for some new fabric when I recognized the title, "Beloved Gaze in Thine Own Heart" as a line from Yeats. Since Yeats was a very important man in my life at that time, I had to find out what he was doing in my quilt store. Long story short, I bought the pattern and made my first doll the following day.
I think as an adult, I reclaim a bit of my childhood when I make a doll. These little figures hold so much life and hope within them. My imagination sparks as they come to life with each element of creation.
For these two dolls, I used the Santo Paper Doll set by Invoke Arts. I added my own punch by using painted paper, metal embossing, and holy metals.
These are simply wonderful Pilar!!! I especially love love love the purple one. Such grace and serenity, with just the right dose of vulnerability. I love the Invoke Arts products too. I've been wanting to create a spirit art doll to symbolize this new cycle I'm entering. Will do so as soon as I can unpack my art room!

Very very cool! I have these stamps, but have yet to use them - now, I'm thinking I'll stand aside and let You, 'the master', take over.

These pieces radiate a spiritual quality and beauty that captures a deeper attention...they remind me of museum pieces that have been lovingly excavated and symbolize something important...
